Why couldn't the X-men director/writer have made an effort to be even a little politically correct?

I liked the movie, actually- it was exciting. I was just kind of
annoyed, in retrospect, that the one black character dies right away,
the Jewish character is blond and has blue eyes, and almost all of the
women are one dimensional mascots with cleavage.
Do you think this was an oversight, or purposeful? It's irritating
either way.
